Hey everyone,
Just wanted to remind us all that we do have a 1.5 week break for Christmas- not quite a vacation but at least a breather (12/24-1/3). I almost forgot about it b/c it isn't listed on our schedules.
Cheers,

Hello Everyone-
I'm facing a 45week stretch of 15 clerkships with only one break, and that break is only three clerkships from the beginning. I know I cannot handle that kind of workload, but the computer does not It scheduled me with three vacations in the first five weeks, and three more in the last three weeks. I need to trade to get a vacation or two in the middle.
I have Spring 1,3,5 (2009) Vacation
&
I have Spring 4,5,6 (2010) Vacation
I would like to swap any of these following courses into any of those spots above.
Fall 4 SCS 654 Oncology
Fall 5 PDI 630 Pathology
Fall 6 SCS 611Diagnostic Imaging
Spring 1 SCS 625 SA General Medicine
Would anyone be willing to help?

Hey everyone,
I would be eternally grateful to anyone who is willing to work out a Gen Med switch with me.
I currently have it Fall 2 (9/14).
I could move it to:
Spring 2 2009 (1/26)
Spring 3 2009 (2/16)
Spring 5 2009 (3/30)
Summer 4 (7/13)
Spring 2 2010 (1/25) - but we would have to wait until drop/add for this because I'd have to drop the elective there
Spring 3 2010 (2/15)
I'm happy to work out another trade "in exchange" for yours if my schedule lines up with yours in a way that is beneficial to you as well!
Thanks!!

Hi everybody, I figure this would be a good spot for swapping one of the required slots, the emergency critical care clerkship.
Case in point, does anyone want to switch to fall 1 for emergency. I am able to take a spring 1-3 fall 6, spring 2,4,5
Good luck everybody

If you have questions about how to use this forum, post them here and Fred will be happy to answer them. You must register to create a new posting or reply to a posted item. It will be easiest if you register with your CVM email address so I can confirm who you are (we wouldn't want 13 year old, bored russian kids posting random things now, would we?).
Thanks,

Class of 2010
Class Meeting Minutes
10/17/08
1. President:
- Next class meeting is Monday, November 10 at 11:00 am.
- Transition Ceremony date is Sunday, January 4
- Students are allowed to invite a family member, friend, mentor, or child over 10 to come up on stage and put our coats on us. No classmates can put coats on other classmates.
- The transition ceremony is in the Pasant Theatre in the Wharton Center and there is no guest number restriction.
- Faculty Advisor: we will vote first and then approach the person – coming soon
- We will vote for class officers at the next class meeting. E-mail Rachel Packard if you would like to run or renew.
2. 5/8s Party Updates
- We need to have some money left over for other expenses besides the party. These include: Graduation costs, class photo ($800-$1500), class gift, etc.
- Class of 2009 party was about $7000 if you adjust for inflation, but they did not have dinner (appetizers only).
- Budget Review:
Facility rental: $700
Food:
Drinks:
Dessert:
Decoration: $600
Entertainment: $850
Tickets/placecards/invitations: $200
- If 100 students attend and they each bring a guest the total cost would be around $9768. The guest ticket price is set at $40 each, but may be lowered if attendance is lower or costs are decreased. This would mean that we would spend about $5568 of class money. The cost of food/drink, etc. for each person attending is $52 per person.
- There was a lengthy discussion of issues and questions…..
3. Fred Tucker’s Proposal
- Donate money to Kabul University Veterinary School to help Afghani veterinary students.
a. Decrease 5/8s party budget to allow money for donation (via class vote)
b. Conduct CVM-wide invitation to donate
c. Coordinate with Dr. Fulton at DCPAH to make arrangements
- Look for e-mails for Fred shortly?
4. Brian White (5/8s Party music)
- Contacted several local bands – most did not respond. Listened to a band demo CD.
- Class Vote on this band vs. DJ. DJ wins.
- May cost closer to $400-500
5. 5/8s Party Alcohol vote
- $10/person for free wine, beer, soft drinks + cash bar for liquor vs. considering other options such as much more expensive open bar. $10/person wins.

Cost of things in the center was discussed. (I hope to have figures to follow this posting soon-N)

4. Dues
- Dr. Abood gave us a list of items/activities that we will be to pay for including next year’s welcome picnic and the 5/8 party.
- SCAVMA signup is at 65%, so we probably won’t get the 100% participation needed to not charge class dues.
- Possibly $20/year. No dues 4th year, $50 if pay total now. Lucy will organize.
5. Class Meeting
- Should we have monthly class meetings?
- Or just monthly meeting of all officers and liaisons.
- Ryan will email liaisons/officers to get feedback
- MVMA wants to sponsor a dinner/speaker. Rachel will follow up with MVMA office.
6. Constitution
- Dave has the 2008 & 2009 constitution. We can pick one and modify it. Class needs to approve.
7. Honor Code Violation/Histology Incident
- Apparently the issues are not completely resolved. Dave will research and update everyone at Monday’s meeting.
8. Prepared agenda items for full class meeting on Monday 10/2/06.

1. Class website
- There are 2 options for our class website.
- The University server is free, but the relatively simple and we would not be able to update it very often.
- The second option is to register with godaddy.com and pay $100/year. This would allow us to have dynamic content so that we can post updates anytime and maintain a calendar of events.
- Leaning towards the second option, there is a sample/starter site posted at www.msucvm2010.com.
2. Fundraising/Merchandise
- One of the other classes has some MSU merchandise that they have sold as a fundraiser. They will give it to us to sell for $200. We can pay them later.
- Lucy will talk to the fundraising chairs about this.
3. Dues
- Class dues are a necessary evil. Need to determine an appropriate amount to charge each year. $10-20/year?
- Discussed the possibly of discounting if students pay for all 4 years at once. Also, if every signs up for SCAVMA will give us an amount of money that should be greater than the dues total would be, so we could waive dues altogether if that happens.
- Dues and recycling income are used to subsidize fundraising efforts.
- Need to determine incentives for paying dues such as the ability to vote in class elections, etc.
4. Class Meeting
- Scheduled a class meeting for Monday, October 2, 2006 in E109 Fee Hall
- Must discuss/vote on constitution, dues, website, etc.
5. Registering as an organization with MSU
- We need to register our class as an organization with the University. This should also establish a financial account of some sort.
- Need a class advisor in order to register.

So to start out our discussion for our Class I'm bringing up one of the hardest topics we will face in our four years. The use of animals that are to be euthanized after surgical procedures are done. My intention in bringing this up is to have a interesting discussion about it and how we as a class feel about it.

In order to provide the dynamic tools of this website (voting, photo gallery, events calendar, etc), it was necessary to contract third party services (www.godaddy.com) as the ITC department doesn't have the requisite software or desire to allow us to do anything interesting in house. The cost of this has been $104.91 that includes 1 year of hosting service and 2 years for the domain name (www.msucvm2010.com). If hosting services stay the same, we will have a recurring cost of around $80-$100 per year to maintain this site.
One rather large point of consideration regarding the cost is our ability to have a website after we graduate that will allow us to stay in touch more easily (we can also provide permanent email addresses: <your_name>@msucvm2010.com). Presently the CVM ITC wipes out websites a year after graduation and, as I recall, eliminates our email addresses much faster than that.
But the decision should really be up to the class. Should we reimburse the webmaster for the cost of hosting this website? You decide.

First, you will need to become a registered user. To do this, just have a chat with your friendly webmaster, Fred Tucker. Once this is done, all students will be allowed access to the Student Photo Album and Class Officers/Reps will have access to the Class Photo Album.
Now that you have your login information, do the following to create your own photo album:
1) Go to the Photos page by clicking the "Photos" link on the left,
2) Click the "Login" link in the upper right corner of the page. If you have lost your password, the system will send you a new one if you click on the "recover password" link at the bottom of this page,
3) Click on the appropriate main album (Class Photos for Class Officers/Reps and Student Photos for everyone),
4) At the bottom left corner of this page, there is a blue link titled "Add Album." Clicking this link will allow you to create your own photo album (and sub-albums, and sub-sub albums and sub-sub-sub albums... you get the idea).
5) Fill in the appropriate areas to create your album:
a) name is really just a file name for the computer... alphanumeric only, no spaces
b) Title, Summary, Keywords and Description are optional and may be changed later
c) Click the "Create" button at the bottom of the page to create the album.
6) Now you will have access to an "Add Items" link at the left as well as an "Add Items" option in the select box (titles "Album Actions") at the bottom left corner of this page. Click or select "Add Items."
7) You may now browse for photos from your computer and upload them to the msucvm2010 website for viewing by all.
Have fun!
Fred
